At 2:45 today during our Strong City Council meeting, the plan for the new Firehouse was approved and voted in favor of unanimously. Evan Yost, Strong City’s Police/Fire Chief, brought the plans to the attention of the council and found prioritization over other areas of possible legislation and for good reason. The plans include a six garage two story building with living quarters, a kitchen, 3 bathrooms, and shower rooms. There will also be 2 Fire Engines, 2 Ambulances, 1 brush fire truck, and 1 ladder truck; with the grand total coming out to $23,700,000. At first the idea was shot down and not even brought to the table because of how costly and ineffective it would have been. However, after Mr. Yost explained his reason for the plans and how important it is to the community, grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for $10 million, the Fire Department grant of $6 million, the Fire Marshall grant of $6.8 million, and the Division of Forestry grant of $700,000, the grand total was brought down to $200,000 and made it through the council with earnest and unanimous approval. Mr. Yost explained that “ we are just as big as the other cities around us yet we lack on having an adequate fire facility.” Well now thanks to his planning and dedication as well as the continued support and generosity from all those that gave us grants, the proper Fire Department was able to become a reality to the citizens of Strong City.
