HB:1 THIRD CONSIDERATION: The Floating Minimum Wage Bill (Sponsored by Thomas Blaha and Charles Gill Jr.) was brought up at 10:57 AM by Speaker Dorris. The bill was returned from the Finance Appropriations, Ways and Means committee with minor amendments that included a possible change to the minimum wage if the Director of Commerce declares an economic emergency. Majority Assistant Whip Jauchius stated his reasoning for amending the bill. Minority Whip Carlson made a motion that the word “hyperinflation” be replaced with “hypercontraction”. Representative Vick seconded. Assistant Majority Floor Leader Blaha voted to end debate, Representative Gill seconded. The House took a vote on Minority Whip Carlson’s motion and voted “nay”. Majority Whip Gill made a motion to strike the words “in case of hyperinflation” and Majority Associate Whip Jauchius seconded. The house voted “yay”. Representative Sheets made a motion to end debate and send the bill to the senate. Minority Floor Leader Koh seconded. The bill was voted on in a clean sweep to send the bill to the senate.
